For those Mac users who often dump items into the Trash but forget to empty it on a regular basis, you can enable a new feature in MacOS which allows the Trash to automatically empty itself after 30 days. This can be a particularly nice feature if your Trash can is constantly bloated and taking up a lot of storage space, as the files that are removed will be removed themselves after the elapsed time period passes.

This auto-empty Trash feature requires macOS Sierra 10.12 or newer, earlier versions of Mac OS do not have the ability to automatically remove items from the trash can.

Remove Items from Trash Automatically After 30 Days in MacOS

From the Finder in MacOS, go to the “Finder” menu and choose “Preferences”
Go to the “Advanced” tab and check the box for “Remove items from the Trash after 30 days”
Exit out of Finder preferences

Once this feature has been enabled, individual items in the Trash in Mac OS will essentially have a 30 day timer where they are counting down until they are automatically deleted. In other words, each file will delete itself automatically after the 30 days pass individually, the Trash doesn’t just empty itself once every 30 days.

You can still manually empty the trash as well.

This has no impact on the Trash aside from deleting the contents automatically, for items and files that have yet to be delete you can still use the Put Back feature, and you can also still use features like Delete Immediately if you don’t want to wait for the 30 days to elapse to trash an item permanently.

Keep in mind that trashing a file is irreversible, if you remove a file you didn’t intend to delete, it will be gone for good unless you made backups with Time Machine or otherwise.

As usual, if you decide you don’t want this feature in use, you can disable it later.

Stop Emptying Trash Automatically in MacOS

From the Finder in MacOS, go to the “Finder” menu and choose “Preferences”
From the “Advanced” tab, uncheck the box next to “Remove items from the Trash after 30 days”

Some users may have enabled this feature unintentionally during initial MacOS setup or when configuring some of the various other features on the Mac.

The feature is similar to the delete after 30 days feature of iOS Photos Recently Deleted album, where pictures are placed in a delete queue and then removed automatically once the time runs out.

The latest versions of iOS for iPhone include an excellent Magnifier feature which can turn the iPhone camera and screen into a magnifying glass. This has many potential uses, but perhaps the most useful in day-to-day life is as a reading aid to read tiny text without squinting and straining your eyes. Instead, you can quickly access the iPhone camera magnifier to zoom into and clarify what you are looking at, just like a real magnifying glass.

The iPhone Magnifier ability must be enabled before it can be used, and then it’s easily to access from anywhere. There are even various adjustments that can be made to the magnifier once it has been accessed, including to zoom level, brightness, contrast, and different color filters as well.

Magnifier on iPhone requires a modern version of iOS, the iPhone must be on iOS 10.0 or newer to have the feature available. Update the iOS version if you wish to have the feature and currently don’t.

How to Enable iPhone Magnifier Camera

Before you can use Magnifier it must be enabled in settings:

Open the “Settings” app on iPhone and go to “General” and then to “Accessibility”
Tap on “Magnifier” and then toggle the switch next to “Magnifier” to the ON position
Exit out of Settings
To access the iPhone magnifying lens, triple-click the Home button
Tap the camera button to freeze the screen on the magnified item

Now that Magnifier is enabled, you can access it from the Locked screen of iPhone, the Home Screen, or anywhere else with the triple-click on the Home button.

Using the iPhone Magnifying Camera Lens

After you have enabled the iPhone Magnifier feature, you can use it anytime easily:

Access the iPhone magnifier by triple-clicking the Home button
Adjust the zoom level on Magnifier with the slider as necessary
Optionally, adjust the Magnifier filters:

Brightness – increase or decrease brightness of the magnifier camera
Contrast – increase or decrease the contrast of the magnifier
None – no color filter
White / Blue – filter colors to whites and blues
Yellow / Blue – filter colors to yellow and blue
Yellow / Black – filter colors to yellow and black
Red / Black – filter colors to red and black
Invert – invert colors, or invert/reverse filter colors

Tap the round camera button to freeze the magnifier screen on the subject, tap again to discard and start over
Exit iPhone Magnifier by pressing the Home button again

Note the iPhone Magnifier is completely different from the photography related features of iPhone camera, as it’s not intended to take pictures with. When you tap the camera button it does not actually save the picture, it just freezes the magnified item on the screen so that you can focus on it, read it, zoom, pan, or adjust was needed. This feature is available on all modern iPhone devices, and while the Plus models can use the same 2x optical zoom camera lens all iPhone with the Magnifier feature enabled can use digital zoom to magnify subjects further, just like you can zoom with the regular iPhone camera.

This is a really great iPhone feature, particularly if you wear corrective lenses or you’re human and have a hard time reading micro fonts that too often are printed on anything from packaging to labels. If you enjoy the iPhone magnifier tip, don’t forget to show it to friends and relatives too, they’ll likely appreciate it just the same!

Mac users have a similar feature available in Preview app to zoom into pictures, and also OS-wide with a little zoom window utility, though neither of which uses the Mac camera as these features on the Mac only apply to what is on screen.

The WordPress Media Library is one of the most used portions of the popular CMS. And, while it’s certainly been improved over time, there are still some things that we’d like to tweak.

Things like easily optimizing images, bulk management and other enhancements that can make for a more powerful and efficient user experience.

Let’s check out some free plugins that you can use to truly take control of media files in your WordPress website.

Enable Media Replace

One of my biggest pet peeves inside WordPress is replacing a document or image that’s referenced from more than one place. This is particularly difficult on a large site. Enable Media Replace adds a dialog that will allow you to go in and either upload a new file in the same spot as the old one or upload a new file using a new URL and change all file references to reflect the new address.

Media from FTP

If you have a lot of media files to add to your WordPress site, Media from FTP can be a real timesaver. Upload your files via FTP and the plugin will register them in the WordPress Media Library. You can even schedule it to look in a directory for regular, periodic uploads.

Enhanced Media Library

Enhanced Media Library helps you customize media to fit your needs. You can categorize and tag files in multiple ways. Plus, the plugin provides various ways to filter and display your media both inside the WordPress backend and on the frontend of your site.

Quick Featured Images

Using Quick Featured Images, you can bulk manage the WordPress featured images in your posts. Set, remove or replace featured images in multiple posts. You can also set default featured images based on defined properties like post categories or tags.

Media Credit

Media Credit creates an easy way to display attribution for a photo or graphic on your website. The plugin will even keep track of files attributed to a particular person and can display them in an archive.

Media Cleaner

Over time, your Media Library can become cluttered with items you’re no longer using. With Media Cleaner, you’ll be able to filter out which items aren’t currently being used and remove them from the server.

Media Files Background Color

This one’s a bit of a niche, but can really improve usability for those who need it. If your library tends to feature white or light-colored images on a transparent background, they can be nearly impossible to see properly. Media Files Background Color lets you add a colored background behind these images for easier viewing in the Media Library.

Imsanity

Imsanity will automatically scale down large image uploads to a more “sane” size. Set your maximum image dimensions and JPG quality and the plugin takes care of the rest.

Image Watermark

With Image Watermark, you’ll be able to automatically add a watermark to images uploaded to through the WordPress Media Library or bulk-add to existing images. The plugin also includes the ability to disable right-clicking of images for copy protection.

Compress JPEG & PNG images

Compress JPEG & PNG images uses the TinyJPG and TinyPNG compression services to optimize your site’s images. In particular, TinyPNG is quite adept at lowering the file sizes of transparent PNG images – even rather complex ones.

Using copy and paste on iPad is easy, and much like copying and pasting on a desktop computer or Mac, you can copy just about anything to the iPad clipboard and paste it just about anywhere that will accept input. Whether you want to copy and paste a text clip, a photo or picture, video, drawing, or nearly anything else does not matter, as long as you can select it, it can be copied and then pasted elsewhere into a different app.

We'll show you how to copy and paste using the iPad contextual menus found in iOS, as well as a few handy tricks unique to iPad that allow you to paste any copied data by using the onscreen keyboard, or using keystrokes to cut, copy, and paste with iPad and Smart Keyboard.

How to Copy and Paste with iPad

This will copy data from one source to the iPad clipboard, and then paste from the iPad clipboard into a new location:

Open the app where you'd like to select and copy something from, for example Safari
Tap and hold to select what you'd like to copy to iPad clipboard, use the selection grabber if necessary
Now choose the "Copy" option from the pop-up menu to copy the selected text or image to the clipboard on iPad
Open the app where you would like to paste the copied item into, for example the Notes app, or a Mail composition window
Tap and hold on the screen where you'd like to paste the clipboard data into, then choose "Paste"

The copied item, text, picture, movie, or data will now be pasted into the new app where you chose the Paste command.

In the screenshot examples above, we copied a block of text from an article in Safari and pasted it into the Notes app, but you could use the same procedure just about anywhere in iOS to copy and paste between Notes, Pages, Numbers, Garageband, Photos, Mail, Messages, and most other apps as well.
How Do You Cut & Paste on iPad?

Cut and paste and copy and paste on iPad are nearly identical, with a few minor but important differences.

To perform a cut and paste rather than copy and paste, you simply choose "Cut" from the pop-up contextual menu item when you have selected the text as outlined above.

Pasting the cut text or data is exactly the same as before.

Remember, when you use "Cut" and paste you are literally cutting the data from the source and then moving it to the pasted location. Cut differs from copy in that it "cuts" it out of the original location, whereas copy simply copies it.

Note that you can only "cut" a piece of text, picture, or data from a selected source that can be edited, like a dynamic document, email, or message thread. A static selected source only allows the "copy" function since it can not be modified, like a web page rendered in Safari.

Pasting with iPad Virtual Keyboard

There's another great copy, cut, and paste feature that is unique to iPad, and it utilizes the onscreen virtual keyboard.

iPad users can also paste any data from the clipboard that has been copy or cut by using the keyboard paste tool, accessible by tapping on the little undo button and then choosing the square overlapping a clipboard icon.

This keyboard based paste function will use the exact same clipboard data as the contextual menu version.
Cut, Copy, Paste on iPad with Smart Keyboard Keystrokes

iPad users who have the Smart Keyboard can use specific keyboard shortcuts to perform the clipboard modifying actions. Using the keystrokes to cut, copy and paste on iPad still require you to select data first, but then you can use the Smart Keyboard to interact with the clipboard.

Cut – Command + X
Copy – Command + C
Paste – Command + V

Desktop computer users should recognize these keystrokes as being the same copy and paste keystrokes used on Mac, using the same command key functions, and they should be familiar to Windows users as well except that they use the Command key rather than Control key to interact with the clipboard.
Copying & Pasting on iPad to/from Other Devices with Universal Clipboard

One of the more interesting features brought to modern iOS and Mac OS versions is the cross-platform Universal Clipboard feature. Using Universal Clipboard allows you to copy and paste to or from an iPad and another completely different device, whether it's another iPad, Mac, iPhone, or iPod touch. You can learn more about using Universal Clipboard here, it's a great feature.

Bridges are an important part of architecture found everywhere on Earth. Since the first bridge was created, we can’t imagine the world without them anymore. However, apart from serving the purpose of connecting two spots, there are some bridges in the world that also have an air of mystery to them which makes these bridges magical.

In this post we are showcasing some of the most mystical and scary bridges that are spread all over the world, so you can have an idea as where you want to plan your new adventure.

1. Devil’s Bridge, Rhodope Mountains, Bulgaria

Devil’s bridge (also known as Dyavolski most) is an arch bridge that was built between 1515 and 1518 by the Ottomans. The bridge is 56 m long and has three arches, and also features holes with small semicircular arches to read water level.

2. Latefossen Waterfall, Norway

The bridge is located right on the way of two waterfalls. It is literally right on the road and allows you to see and feel the strong mist coming off the falls. The twin falls are cool and not all that common in the world – especially this easy to get to.

3. Glenfinnan Viaduct, Scotland

Glenfinnan Viaduct is the famous place where Hogwarts express train was shown in the famous Harry Potter movie. To catch the old train you should wait for about 2 hours. Stream coming from the locomotive is truly magical.

4. Gaztelugatxe, Spain

Gaztelugatxe is an island connected to the mainland with a man-made bridge. Crossing the bridge you’ll see breathtaking views. The bridge transitions into a narrow path containing 241 steps and zigzags its way back and forth to the top.

5. Multnomah Falls, Oregon, USA

This bridge is located near the Historic Columbia River Highway, at milepost 32, Multnomah County, Oregon. It has a breathtaking view of Multnomah Falls. One of the few bridges constructed on the highway strictly for pedestrian use.

6. Palaiokarya bridge, Pindos Mountains, Greece

The beautiful bridge of Palaiokarya with its two artificial waterfalls, stands there since the 16th century. It is a stone arched bridge with a length of 26 meters. The waterfall behind the bridge creates an awe-inspiring, magnificent image.

7. Root Bridge, India

This amazing living root bridge was handmade from the aerial roots of Rubber Trees. Usually, these roots have been placed across rivers and streams. Such kind of bridges become stronger with time, as it takes them about 50 years to grow!

8. Puente Nuevo, Malaga, Spain

Puente Nuevo is the newest and largest 120-metre-deep chasm that carries the Guadalevín River and divides the city of Ronda, in southern Spain. By ‘new’ meaning 1793, when the bridge was reconstructed.

9. Buxian Bridge, Huangshan, China

This short pedestrian span is also known as the “Fairy Walking Bridge” because it looks almost magical. It is built in 1987, but it looks like it was made much earlier. It’s only a few steps across, however, bridge’s design has a feel of some ancient Chinese relic.

10. Carrbridge Bridge, Scotland

Village Carrbridge has the oldest stone bridge across the River Dulnain which was built in 1717. The bridge was built to allow funeral processions to access Duthil Church when the river was in spate. Because of this, the bridge was known locally as ‘the coffin bridge’ which is really scary!

11. Ponte Gobbo, Italy

Ponte Gobbo is a town landmark which is also known as Devil’s Bridge. It’s an ancient stone bridge of Roman origin, which crosses the river Trebbia in eleven irregular arches. Also it is subtlety illuminated at night and a popular walk for the locals.

12. Stari Most, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Stari Most is one of the most popular country’s landmarks. It’s a 16th-century Ottoman bridge in the city of Mostar that crosses the river Neretva and connects the two parts of the city. Young people entertain tourists and earn money by jumping to the river from bridge’s center. As water is really cold such activity requires to be a master.

13. Gapstow Bridge, New York, USA

The beautiful, schist bridge found at 62nd street in Central Park, offering one of the best views of the New York City skyline. The bridge is also one of the most popular film locations. It was featured in numerous films, such as Cruel Intentions, Listen to Your Heart, It Should Happen to You and many more.

14. Moon Bridge in Taipei, Taiwan

The Moon Bridge is located in DaHu (Big Lake) Park in Taipei. The clear water allows for a perfect reflection of upside down world, almost playing tricks on the mind. The bridge illuminated at night, so it looks gorgeous any time of the day.

15. Hobbit Bridge. Rakotiz Brucke, Germany

Hobbit’s Bridge is also known as Rakotzbrücke, which was specifically built to create a circle when it is reflected in the waters beneath it. Like many similar bridges across Europe, the Rakotzbrücke is known as a “devil’s bridge” due to the colloquialism that such bridges were so miraculous or dangerous that they must have been built by Satan.

16. Misarela Bridge, Portugal

Bridge of Mizarela is a medieval bridge that crosses the Rio Rabagão. There is a legend that this bridge was built by the Devil. When the mothers were afraid that their baby would be born dead or could not get pregnant – they would go to the bridge.

17. Aiguille du Midi Bridge, France

This bridge is 12,605 feet above sea level, so if you happen to be there – just don’t look down! Just keep your eyes on the panorama of the craggy French Alps. Getting here requires taking a cable car that climbs 9,200 vertical feet in 20 minutes.

18. Geierlay, Mörsdorf, Germany

Suspension bridge Geierlay is a pedestrian rope bridge between the local congregations Mёrsdorf and Sosberg. With its length of 360 m, it is considered to be the longest suspension bridge in Germany. Those who dare to cross it must have a head for heights.

19. Royal Gorge Bridge, Colorado

Royal Gorge is the highest suspension bridge in America. The bridge crosses the gorge 955 feet (291 m) above the Arkansas River. It held the record of the highest bridge in the world from 1929 until 2001 when it was surpassed by the Liuguanghe Bridge in China. Due to 1982 the bridge didn’t have wind stabilizing cables.

20. Canopy Walk, Ghana

Canopy Walk is a bridge above the forest in Ghana’s Kakum National Park. Of course, it has net walls and hand rails on the each side of you, but still you’re walking on a plank of wood on over one feet wide. The bridge is 1,000 feet long and 100 feet high.

Embedded video playing in Messages is one of the more subtly helpful and interesting features available on modern versions of iOS and Mac OS. Essentially what this means is that when you or someone else sends a video link through the Messages app, say a YouTube or Vimeo link, the thumbnail of the video that is shown is actually playable directly within the Messages app – no need to open a web browser, you can just tap and play the video directly.

Embedded videos can be played in Messages for both Mac OS and iOS, as long as you're running a modern version of system software. For iPhone and iPad, that means anything beyond iOS 10, and for Mac that means anything beyond Mac OS 10.12.

How to Play Embedded Video Messages in iOS and Mac OS

This trick works the exact same whether you're in Messages on iPhone, iPad, or Mac:

Open the Messages app and go into any iMessage thread as usual
Send or receive a video URL link from YouTube, Vimeo, etc (for example, here's a YouTube video)
Tap the subtle play icon in the middle of the thumbnail of the video embedded in the message to start playing

The feature is the same on Messages for Mac and iOS:

Once the video is playing you can tap anywhere in the video embed to stop or pause the video.

This is great because it allows you to watch a shared video without having to open a different app or leave a message conversation.

Of course you can still open the sent/received video URL into a web browser app if desired, to accomplish that you simply press on the link underneath the video embed thumbnail and it will open into Safari in iOS or the default web browser on the Mac.

This is a subtle feature but it's really quite useful, give it a try. Remember this is intended to work with video URLs and links shared from the web, where thumbnails are drawn for the shared link. A video sent through messages will also play directly in the messages app, though it opens in a separate viewing screen.

Like other multimedia messages (and messages in general), these can be deleted if you no longer want the embedded video to show up in your messages app, or you can delete the entire message thread too.
